author biography
Bryan was born in Speyer, Germany, to American parents M. Day and J. Day. He spent his early years living in Southwest Germany, attending German schools from K-5th grade.
At the age of 12, his family moved to the United States, where Bryan faced problems adjusting to American lifestyle and culture. Undiagnosed clinical depression had a profound effect on Bryan's adolescence, widening the gap between him and his peers.
At age 18, he joined the military — misled under false pretenses by his recruiters — to become disenfranchised with war, greed, and corruption; opting instead for Pacifism. Since this decision was not based on religious conviction, the military considered Bryan's stance to be groundless.
Additionally, claims of depression, suicidal urges and disturbed thinking were disbelieved, forcing Bryan to opt for a less principled method for terminating his enlistment contract: of smoking marijuana and turning himself in for fictional drug abuse. While a farce, the plan succeeded.
Limited opportunities and a shrinking economy led to Bryan's poor economic status after leaving the military. Without healthcare or adequate sustainable means, often living below the poverty line, Bryan fell through several of society's cracks, eventually succumbing to a psychotic or manic episode in 2008. He was diagnosed as having schizoaffective disorder and schizotype personality disorder in 2009, after his incarceration.
Today, Bryan writes from his perspective on life, from inside the Colorado Correctional system. He has a job helping teach inmates basic computer skills, and plays in two of the prison bands at Bent County Correctional Facility. He has been a practising Buddhist since 2010. His mandatory release date is scheduled for 2017, although he could be paroled earlier than that.
